The Bar Chronicle Festival is a comprehensive manifestation of the Bar Cultural Center, which promotes culture and valuable artistic content characteristic of Bar and Montenegro, and gathers eminent creators from Montenegro, the region and the world.
The festival has survived for three decades as a key manifestation of the Bar summer. Nurturing the centuries-old tradition of the city and the spirit of community, and listening to the needs of modern times, Ljetopis long ago became a confirmed witness of the development of Montenegrin culture. As consistent and loyal as he was to his initially profiled essence and nature, he also managed to break out of his previous framework, respond to the needs of new creative impulses and preserve the function of a recognizable artistic perspective of the overall Montenegrin scene. That is why he always met with the unreserved trust and commitment of the audience, primarily in Bar, and then in the whole of Montenegro. Without forgetting the potentials and peculiarities of the area where it was born, Chronicle inevitably left an immeasurable contribution to the concept of educational tourism in our country, thus successfully finding its visitors among guests from all over the world.
Festival 2023.
The “Bar Chronicle” festival, which is being held this year for the 36th time, will take place from July 15 to August 26. During six weeks filled with various program contents, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the theater, film, music, literature, art segment of the festival, as well as the bARS segment and accompanying programs.

The curtains on Chronicle will be raised on the Summer Stage of the Cultural Center, with the premiere performance in Montenegro of the great international musical and stage production “The Fugitives”, choreographed by Staša Zurovac. This year, in co-production with the City Theater Podgorica and the National Theater Nis, Ljetopis will realize the premiere of the play “Decameron”, directed by prominent Macedonian director Dejan Projkovski.
The artistic, literary and theater-film program is managed again this year by the reference selectors Dr. Anastazija Miranović, Dr. Milun Lutovac and Milija Šćepanović, while the conductor Miro Kruščić, M.Sc., joined the selection team for the first time, who will edit the music segment.
